How to Rename a Disk Drive on a Windows 11 Computer

You can freely change the names (drive letters) of disk drives connected to your computer, such as "C:" or "D:", to other names at any time. However, if there is an app that references that drive letter, you will also need to change the settings for that app.
To change the disk drive name (drive letter), use the Disk Management tool that comes standard with Windows.
PC When you press the Start key, the screen on the right will appear. Click "All Apps" in the top right.
PC Select "Windows Tools" from the list.
PC You will then see a screen like this. Click on "Computer Management".
PC This will launch the "Computer Management" app. Click "Disk Management" from the menu on the left.
PC This will display all the disk drives connected to your computer, as shown on the right.
If you have added a new disk, you must initialize it first. See How to add an SSD or hard disk to a Windows 11 computer/How to change the drive name for more information.
PC Right-click on the disk drive you want to change the name of. You will see a menu like this. Select "Change Drive Letter and Paths".
PC You'll then see a dialog box like this. Make sure the correct drive is selected and click "Change".
PC Next, a dialog box like the one on the right will appear. Click the radio button "Assign the following drive letter" and select a new drive letter from the drop-down menu to the far right.
Note that you cannot select a name that is already assigned to another drive.
PC You'll then see a warning screen like this. This is to warn you that if there is an app that references this drive name, you will also need to change the settings for that app.
PC Clicking "Yes" on the screen above will immediately reconnect the drive to Windows with its new name.
