How to add a user account to a Windows 11 computer/Use one PC with multiple users

By adding "user accounts" to a computer, multiple users can use a single computer. Each user will have their own desktop environment. However, disk drives and peripheral devices connected to the computer will be accessible by all users.

Add a new local account

PC When you press the [Start] key, the screen on the right will appear. Click "Settings."
PC You'll then see a screen like this. Select "Account" from the menu on the left side of the screen. You can check and change information about your account.
PC Scroll down the right-hand screen and click "Other Users."
PC Click the blue "Add Account" button in the "Add other users" section.
PC To create a new user, click "There is no sign-in information for this user."
If you want to add a user who already has a Microsoft account or Xbox account to this computer, enter that account in the "Email address or phone number" field.
PC If you click "There is no sign-in information for this user" on the screen above, you'll see the following screen. To create a local account just for this computer, click "Add a user without a Microsoft account."
If you want to create a new Microsoft account, enter the email address that will serve as the ID. Or, you can click "Get a new email address" to create a new email address.
PC If you click "Add a user without a Microsoft account" on the screen above, you will see the screen on the right. Enter a username and password of your choice.
To use all services smoothly, I recommend entering only half-width alphanumeric characters here.
However, setting a password is not mandatory. If you do not want to enter a password when starting your computer, do not enter anything here and click "Next" at the bottom right of the screen.
Passwords can be added, changed, or deleted later .
Of course, not setting a password will reduce security. I recommend that you set a password for devices that are taken outdoors, such as laptops, or devices that are installed in areas where an unspecified number of people come and go.
PC You will then be returned to the previous screen. You will now see that new user account has been added.

Add administrator privileges to a local account

Administrator privileges are required to install or remove apps, change OS settings, etc. Add administrator privileges to your local account if necessary.
PC Open the [Settings] - [Accounts] screen and click on the user name you want to add permissions to. You will then see a menu like this. Click "Change account type".
You can also click "Delete" on this screen to delete the local account from your computer.
PC You will then see a screen like this. Click on the place where it says "Standard User".
PC Select "Administrator" from the drop-down menu and click "OK" to add administrator privileges.

Switch between local accounts

PC Press the [Start] key and click on your account name in the bottom left of the screen, and the screen on the right will appear.
Clicking the [...] icon will display a list of accounts configured on this computer. Click any account to switch to that user. However, in this case, the original user will still be signed in to the computer. This will mean that multiple users are using the computer at the same time.
PC If you click "Sign out" on the screen above, you'll see the screen on the right. This means that no one is using the computer. A list of accounts set up on this computer will be displayed in the bottom left of the screen. Click on any account to switch to that user.

Remove a local account

PC Open the [Settings] - [Accounts] screen and click on your username. You'll see a menu like this. If you click "Delete" on this screen, you can delete that local account from your computer.
